Schedule for Grade 9 in USHS |
The University Science High School, established by virtue of the CLSU Board of
Regents under the Board Resolution No. 1622 dated June 14, 1976, as a prime
school for students who are inclined to pursue science and technology courses
which the country needs for its massive and sustaining development
programs. In 1978, Board Resolution No. 1780 was passed revising the curriculum
and changing the name to Agricultural Science High School as an answer to the
clamor for change of the traditional curricular offerings.
Further
revision/enrichment of the curriculum was made in 1979 to strengthen the
agricultural components and meet the needs of the students who seek admission
to Agricultural Institutions of higher learning without prejudice to the
original goal of preparing the youth for intensive training in science and
technology. The school has opened its doors to interested applicants who
qualify through screening by an entrance examination to fill up the limited
slot of 80 in the first year level since 1978.
In 1983, the school was
back to its original name, the Science High School, to respond to the schools’
intensive emphasis on science and technology. Now in its more than 2 decades of
existence, though a small unit in the University under the College of
Education, the USHS has been an asset and will always be an asset continuously
giving its share in making CLSU a bold name in the academic world where science
and technology front the line in its educational thrusts by producing quality
graduates.
Personal
Information
In University Science
High School (USHS), there are 439 students in all grades; from grade seven
until grade twelve. There are two units in this school i.e. Junior High and
Senior High school. USHS is lead by their Principal, Dr. Mercedita M.
Reyes. The total number of USHS school days for the S.Y. 2019-2020 is 206
and the allowed percentage of absence given for students is only 20% of it. The
lessons are held for five days, from Monday to Friday, and starts at 7.30 AM to
5 PM. There are 24 professional educators in total. Some of them are also
lecturers in the College of Education, Central Luzon State University.
USHS adopts the said
order of DepEd, regarding to the grading system, with some modifications. The
basic percentage of students’ completeness across the country is 75%. However,
USHS has its own policy called Retention Policy. In Retention Policy, if USHS
learners pass and get 75% in their report card but do not meet 85 %, they will
still pass for the next level, but those students will be advised to transfer
to another school – the regular one. So, all of USHS students are advised to
meet a minimum of all of the subjects at the end of the school year. That’s so
challenging, right? No
Admissions
As a prerequisite for admission, prospective students must pass a comprehensive entrance exam. The top 80 qualifiers among an annual average of 400 applicants are selected. An additional ten slots are reserved for admission of the faculty/staff’s children.
Welcome to USHS :) |

Materials
and Other Learning Sources
For
the materials, the teachers in CLSU Science High School that used English but
still mixed with Tagalog Language. To provide the learning process in the
classroom, teacher use course syllabus, internet (Book Online) and textbook,
lecture notes/ handout, and PowerPoint presentations. My cooperating teacher always gives a quiz before they
are moved to the next topics.
Measurement
and Evaluation System
This
school has different measurement and evaluation system with another school in
my country, Indonesia. Learners from Grades 1 to 12 are graded on Written Work,
Performance Tasks, and Quarterly Assessment every quarter. Written Work,
Performance Tasks and Quarterly Assessment every quarter are given specific
percentage weights that vary according to the nature of the learning area.

Curriculum
All
of the schools in Philippines use the curriculum from the government. It’s
called K to 12 means education obligatory start from Kindergarten to
12th Grade. The Curriculum was implemented 4 years ago, after the former
President Benigno Aquino mandated this so that the Philippine schools will have
the same number of years as the other South East Asian Countries. With that,
the University Science High School used the same curriculum, two years now
after its opening. This is to make sure that, students get to choose the right
track for their future profession. The curriculum also would like to help those
students, to make them work-ready after graduating from Senior High School.
Teaching Plan
However,
the teachers in CLSU Science High School make their own Lesson Plan but still
parallel to the National curriculum following the guidelines of the Department
of Education. This Lesson Plan is mapped and aligned to the DepEd SHS
Curriculum, designed to be highly usable for teachers. It contains classroom
activities and pedagogical notes and is integrated with innovative pedagogies.
All of these elements are presented in the following parts:
